Are You Sprinting “Toward” the End Zone or “Towards” the End Zone

Are you driving toward the middle school or towards it?

A friend asked about this wacky word choice a few weeks ago. Here’s the question: “Is it toward or towards? This drives me crazy! Do I drive toward something or towards it? Or is it neither?”

Answer: It is toward. Always. Don’t put an “s” on words such as these:

Toward

Backward

Forward

Regard

Sample sentence: The running back is dodging tacklers as he sprints toward the end zone.
